It’s truly incredible how many wonderful people we’ve met here in Port Isabel, and how many of them are from Canada. Each one has left a lasting impression on us. Always smiling. Always thoughtful. Always kind. They seem to offer help before I can even think to ask. Their intelligence, paired with the humble wisdom that comes from life’s rich experiences, is something we deeply admire.

We are especially grateful to friends like Keith and Ann Hill, Ian and Lori Bullock, and Dan and Gloria Johnston—and so many others whose names may escape me in this moment but are no less a part of our gratitude. Whether it’s sharing tips on learning pickleball or revealing the hidden secrets of maintaining our RV, they invest their time and knowledge so graciously into Melody and me. It’s a gift we’ll never take for granted.

There are so many wonderful people in the park, and every interaction with each of you has been a joy. But today, I had an epiphany about just how special our Canadian friends are. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of all these amazing folks to share, so I’ll share one of Melody and me, as a reminder of how deeply we value these friendships.

So often, we tend to categorize people in ways that are generalized, and sometimes unfairly negative. But our experience has been the opposite—every single interaction we’ve had with our Canadian friends has been uplifting and enriching. Your kindness, generosity, and warmth have touched our lives in ways we can’t fully express.

What’s more, your magnetism doesn’t stop with you. These wonderful Canadians have brought together other equally kind-hearted American friends, creating a community that amazes us daily. Together, we share laughter, stories, and moments that remind us just how blessed we are to be in this time and space, with all of you.

To all of our Canadian friends—Keith and Ann, Ian and Lori, Dan and Gloria, and everyone else who has shared a smile, a story, or a helping hand—thank you for your wisdom, your friendship, and your joy. Melody and I appreciate every moment we’ve shared with you. You’ve made this chapter of our lives truly unforgettable, and we are so grateful for the place God has chosen for us, right here, right now.
