The past few months have been an incredible journey of self-discovery and growth, as I’ve embraced the opportunity to explore a new environment and how it connects to my #Ki-Aikido practice. Moving to a different setting has offered me a fresh perspective on balance, movement, and mobility—all fundamental aspects of Ki-Aikido—and has deepened my understanding of this martial art.

Through new activities like water aerobics and yoga, I’ve found surprising parallels to the principles of Ki-Aikido. The fluid movements in the water during aerobics remind me of the seamless flow of energy we strive for in practice. Yoga, with its emphasis on balance and breath, mirrors the calm focus that ki-aikido demands. These practices have become more than just physical activities; they are tools for refining my awareness and adaptability.
One key insight I’ve gained is how much perspective matters. In Ki-Aikido, we talk about seeing the whole picture, staying centered, and adapting to change with grace. By stepping into these new activities, I’ve been able to see my practice in a new light. It’s as if changing the lens has sharpened my vision—helping me see more openly and resourcefully, not only in Ki-Aikido but also in life.

Adaptation has been another profound lesson. Just as we learn to harmonize with a partner’s energy in Ki-Aikido, we can discover how to harmonize with the unfamiliar—new routines, new people, and even the elements themselves. The gentle resistance of water, the challenge of learning and holding a yoga pose, or simply the act of trying something different have all become opportunities to grow stronger, more balanced, and more resilient.

Throughout this journey, I’ve often reflected on my personal motto and the words etched into my skin: “Masa Katsu A Gatsu—True Victory is Self Victory.” These words serve as both a guide and a reminder that the ultimate challenge lies within. Each new experience, each adjustment and adaptation, is another step toward understanding myself better and achieving that true victory.

This journey has reminded me that improvement isn’t always about pushing harder; sometimes, it’s about letting go and flowing with what comes. The environment we place ourselves in—whether a dojo, a pool, or a yoga mat—can reveal new pathways to growth if we remain open to them.

I’m grateful for this chance to expand my practice and my understanding of Ki-Aikido. It’s a reminder that the principles we study on the mat extend far beyond it—into the way we move, adapt, and connect with the world around us. And as I continue this journey, I’m excited to see what new lessons and insights await in this ever-changing flow of life.
