Some books are imagined. This one was lived.
A Season in the Sun is one of the most personal books I’ve ever written—not because it’s a memoir (it’s not, quite), but because every chapter is rooted in real sand, real people, real healing. Set during a winter season in Port Isabel, Texas, the book follows a man—like me—who is trying to find peace in a place that doesn’t ask him to prove anything.
After a life of striving and surviving, he finally slows down. And for the first time in years, he starts listening to what the wind, the water, and the quiet have been trying to say all along.
A Road Trip That Became a Turning Point
I didn’t set out to write this book. Melody and I packed up for the coast looking for some rest—after loss, after illness, after too many goodbyes. But somewhere in the daily rhythms of RV life, Blackstone dinners under palm trees, and talks by the pool with new friends, something shifted.
This wasn’t just a break.
It was a reset.
And that’s what this book became.
The Heart of the Story
A Season in the Sun is about finding yourself again—slowly, kindly—after the world has worn you down. It’s about waking up with fewer expectations and more awareness. It’s about realizing that your worth was never tied to what you achieved, but to the love you’re still capable of giving.
The characters may be fictionalized, but they’re all real in some way—each one shaped by someone I met, something I learned, or a lesson I had to live.
It’s for anyone who needs to be reminded that:
- There’s life after disappointment
- There’s love after heartbreak
- And there’s still time to enjoy what you didn’t miss
What I Learned
The warm breeze can teach you more than a therapist if you let it.
You don’t need to escape life—you need to return to it. And sometimes, that means leaving the familiar behind and choosing stillness, even in motion.
This book helped me do that.
And my hope is that it helps readers feel less alone in their longing for peace and presence.
