A relaxing sunset at South Padre Island

Melody and I often talk about how life has brought us to Port Isabel, a place where the palm trees sway in rhythm with the Gulf breeze, and each day unfolds like a gift we never tire of unwrapping. Being here as Winter Texans is not just a season; it’s a state of mind—a chance to live a dream that many long for but few get to experience.

Our days are often filled with simple joys that some might overlook. The shimmering pool and hot tub in our community is more than just a body of water; it’s a gathering place where laughter echoes and friendships are forged. We’ve met incredible people here, each with their own stories, challenges, and triumphs. These connections have added a richness to our lives that no material possession ever could.

No matter if the days are filled with sunshine or clouds, rain or winds, every day here can be special. Living the dream means embracing each moment, not because it’s perfect, but because it’s ours to cherish. Whether it’s participating in water aerobics, yoga, bike riding, playing cards, corn bags, or taking walks, we find joy in all the activities that make each day unique and vibrant.

There was a time when we dreamed of such a life, and now that it’s here, we hold it close. The quote often comes to mind: “The key is to be grateful, look carefully at what we have and understand that somewhere, someone would give everything for what you already have and don’t appreciate.” Those words resonate deeply with us, especially as we reflect on the path that brought us here. We’ve faced loss, challenges, and uncertainty, but through it all, we’ve found each other and this incredible opportunity to live fully.

We’ve also learned that gratitude transforms the mundane into the extraordinary. It’s in the way Melody’s laughter lights up the room, the way the warm sun feels on our skin during a morning walk, or the way our hibiscus plant bloomed despite the journey it endured. These moments are reminders that what we have is precious—not because it’s perfect, but because it’s ours.

As we embrace each day in Port Isabel, we’re reminded of those who yearn for what we’ve found. We’re not here to just pass the time; we’re here to live it, to cherish it, and to share it with those who cross our path. This life, this dream, is a testament to the power of gratitude and the beauty of appreciating what we have, here and now.
