keith thorn – nothing changes if nothing changes

To my friends who are fighting for their health — who are making hard choices, changing habits, listening to doctors, walking when it hurts, eating differently, pushing forward even when the road feels unfair — I see you.

I admire you.

You are choosing life on purpose.

You are showing your children, your friends, your spouses, and yourself that you still want to be here. That there is more to see. More to give. More to experience.

That kind of fight inspires more than you realize.

But to those who feel tired…
To those who feel like surrender would be easier…
To those quietly drifting instead of deciding…

I want to speak gently, not harshly.

I know pain is real.
I know depression can feel suffocating.
I know hopelessness can whisper lies that sound convincing.

But here is what I’ve learned — in my life, in my writing, in the pages of No Regrets and Stillness in the Storm:

Resignation is also a decision.

And if nothing changes… nothing changes.

You are not meant to simply wait for the end.

You are not meant to shrink into the background of your own story.

If there is breath in your lungs, there is still something left to do.

I’ve written in When I’m Gone about legacy — about what remains after we do. But legacy isn’t built at the end. It’s built in the decision to keep showing up.

I would rather go out walking — feeling the sun on my face, swatting flies, laughing too loud, trying one more time — than sit still and surrender early.

Not because I’m fearless.

But because I refuse to waste the days I’ve been given.

And I want the same for you.

So if all you can do today is one small thing — do that.

Stand up.
Walk to the mailbox.
Call a friend.
Change one meal.
Take one breath with intention.

One small act of defiance against darkness.

Because movement creates momentum.

Because effort builds capacity.

Because nothing changes… if nothing changes.

And because we love you.

Your story is not over.

Not yet.
